The King’s Men are delighted to announce the launch of their Engagement and Learning Programme from September 2022.
We are deeply committed to the education of future young musicians and we are so excited to be delivering singing workshops to children in schools around the UK. Engagement and Learning activities, when organised and carried out well, offer a variety of benefits for all those involved. There is potential to (re)invigorate students’ and teachers’ passion for singing, encouraging interested pupils towards a life with singing that extends as far as university choirs, church choirs, choral societies and beyond!

'The visit of the King's Men was wonderful. They were kind with the children and the activities were engaging. The assembly they lead was absolutely amazing - the children were really engrossed in the performance.' Mr Edward Ferguson, Headmaster, Newnham Croft Primary School
Our Aims
1) Delivering a quality musical education – the person and persona, classroom management and learning techniques.
2) Developing and encouraging children of all backgrounds, varied abilities and ages – a tailored experience (resources, repertoire warm-ups, games and songs to engage and inspire children).
3) Dedicating time to goals, achievements, outcomes and next steps – building long term relationships and providing resources for continued work.

'Thank you for the workshop, which was excellent. I thought you pitched it really well and the biggest criticism is that it was too short! Our boys got so much out of Friday, anything which gave them more would have been super.' Mr Francis Murton, Head of Music, Victoria College (Jersey)
The Launch
After months of planning, we were thrilled to launch our programme in Cambridge. We enjoyed a successful day of workshops with children in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6, from using the voice at its most basic to putting together song with 3 part harmony.
We have since taken our schools workshops as far as Jersey, where we worked with 5 schools during our tour in January 2023. Find out more about our schools projects in a recent interview we gave for ITV - simply click the adjacent image or click here. |
Young Choral Leaders
Our passion for school outreach is palpable, and we hope to inspire and empower young minds through the transformative power of music. With a deep-seated belief in the importance of arts education, we've dedicated ourselves to crafting enriching experiences for students, fostering creativity and confidence along the way. Our commitment extends beyond mere enthusiasm; we are trained, possessing a wealth of knowledge and expertise specifically tailored for conducting school singing workshops. Armed with a nuanced understanding of pedagogy and performance, we guide participants through vocal exercises, breathing techniques, and musical interpretation, nurturing a love for singing while instilling invaluable skills. Through unwavering dedication and finely-honed skills, we hope to foster a lifelong appreciation for the arts and to shape the future for young talents.

Future Plans
Following our successful launch, plans are already in the works to complete workshop connections at 5 UK state and independent schools over the course of this term. We would love to hear from any schools or educators who would benefit from a collaboration with The King's Men.
The King’s Men work regularly with the choristers of the choir at King’s College School which ensures that every member is approved with an Enhanced DBS. In addition, members of the group have knowledge of working with children and young people.
If you have a connection to a school which would like The King's Men to visit and give workshops, please get in touch with the 'Contact Us' form, or at [email protected]

Testimonials
'I think starting the day with an assembly was a great way for the children to get a taste of what the workshops would be about. The way you communicated clearly, and with confidence, engaged the children from the start. They were certainly awe-struck when hearing you perform, and couldn't believe there wasn't any accompaniment to your voices. The way you highlighted the importance of working together was a message that could be applied to so much that the children do, and the way you performed as a group demonstrated this so well. The workshop was excellent. The warm-up activities were fun and engaging. The way that you were able to manage the varying responses of children was positive, and you were able to bring out the best in them. The pace of the session, use of actions as well as singing, the variations provided and the song choices were perfect for Year 5. They all had a great time.' Mrs Jo Turner, Year 5 Teacher, Newnham Croft Primary School
